When he arrived at a university in Australia, he also was in the midst of a career in Australian rules football before turning his focus toward his legal studies. Then the music started happening.
Then, just as he was within sight of becoming a lawyer, he was struck by a songwriting muse that had been simmering since he started playing guitar at age 14.
Within two years, his first single, “Riptide,” was a hit in Australia, began climbing charts around the world, and even Taylor Swift was covering the song in a BBC performance.
